Program Description – The American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) has accredited the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Mortuary Science Programme at Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville.  The Maryland State Board of Morticians requires 1,000 hours of apprenticeship, including 20 funeral and 20 embalming aides. To be qualified for an apprenticeship, the individual must have completed two-thirds of the educational requirements (46 credits) with a 2.0 grade point average, which must be validated with an official copy of the college transcript before petitioning the Board for approval of an apprenticeship programme.

Program Requirements – Students who choose this curriculum should be aware that some specialized courses may not transfer to some four-year universities. Students must take the National Board Examination as part of their graduation requirements. They must also apply to the Maryland State Board of Morticians for permission to take the Maryland Mortuary Science Law and Practical Examination. Out-of-state students must get acquainted with their home state’s licensing rules as they pertain to apprenticeship and educational requirements.
